How did I move to Singapore?

Suitcases used for a family move to Singapore

Asia had never particularly enticed me. Thailand had meant holidays to me: heat, sea, tom yum and warm encounters. I definitely never thought that I would be living in Southeast Asia.

Here’s what happened. At some point in the company where I work, I was offered to relocate to Singapore. We have a large office here and the company was established many years ago in Banana-Lemon. I came for a week “to look around” and I liked it. Singapore has a way of charming very quickly.

I came home and announced:
 — Dear wife and children, I propose an adventure for all of us — to move to a distant country. You have never been there and know nothing about it. But! It’s always warm and there are swimming pools in every home.
 — Say no more! We’re going!

The company helped me with the paperwork. It was somewhat tedious, but not difficult. In total, it took about 3 months (I was dragging my feet). We sent some things by regular mail, packed the rest into 6 suitcases and flew to live in Singapore.
